Lucknow: Faculty, scholars and students at Lucknow University’s Department of Education spent a day planting saplings across campus, part of an ongoing green initiative called ‘Gyanankur Guru Vatika.’
Dr. Hemendra Kumar Singh organised the drive, which was presided over by department head Prof. Shravan Kumar. Speaking at the event, Kumar told students that plantation drives alone won’t solve climate change or pollution — the real work, he said, lies in looking after what’s already been planted, and he asked students to commit to that upkeep.
Several senior university officials turned up to plant trees themselves: Chief Provost Prof. Ashish Awasthi, Chief Proctor Prof. Rakesh Dwivedi, Dean of Student Welfare Prof. Amita Kanaujia, and Superintending Engineer Dr. Shyamlesh.
A large turnout of faculty joined in too — Prof. Tripta Trivedi, Prof. Dinesh Kumar, Prof. Aparna Godbole, Prof. Munesh Kumar and Prof. Kiran Lata Dangwal among them, alongside Dr. Neetu Singh, Dr. Surya Narayan Gupta, Dr. Devendra Kumar Yadav, Dr. Sumit Gangwar, Dr. Sanjay Singh Yadav and Dr. Poonam Srivastava. Research scholars and students rounded out the crowd, most staying on afterward to talk about keeping the young trees alive through the coming months.
